If you shop the US 27 corridor, Costco may be your next stop. The Lakeland Gazette says a site plan was filed with Polk County on Nov. 4 for a 158,000-square-foot Costco Wholesale warehouse on US 27 at Heller Brothers Boulevard.

|---|---|
| The proposed Costco | 158,000 sq. ft. |
| A football field | 57,600 sq. ft. (end zones included) |
| A Walmart Supercenter | about 180,000 sq. ft. |
The Lakeland Ledger describes the project as in the pre-planning stages, based on Polk County records and recent media reports. Property appraiser records list the land's owner as Heller Highway 27 LLC of Winter Garden.
- Site: 40.44 acres in unincorporated Davenport
- Gas pumps: a members-only station is part of the plan
- Outparcels: three are included
Costco wouldn't be alone out there. The Gazette says work is underway on a 56-acre retail complex a short drive north, at US 27 and Holly Hill Grove Road, with a Sam's Club and Davenport's first Walmart Supercenter. That's a lot of bulk toilet paper on one stretch of highway.
