COMMUNITY NEWS

  • LASER, a nonprofit leading Lake County flood recovery, is calling on volunteer groups to repair homes that lack flood insurance—an effort that has involved contacting 57 affected homeowners and repairing 20 homes so far. The organization plans to expand support as more damage from the storm is assessed.  WESH
  • In October, the Lake County Clerk’s Office raised awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month by collecting stuffed animals to help local children affected by domestic abuse. The donations—part of the office’s fourth-year effort—were given to Haven of Lake and Sumter Counties, which has offered aid to victims for over 40 years.  South Lake Tablet
  • Clermont Garden Club members helped children plant flowers to take home during today’s Head Start Fall Festival at the facility on E. Desoto St.—the free program for children ages 3-5 offered a bounce house, coloring, and gardening station—and the club supports the program with donated garden books.  South Lake Tablet
  • The Kiwanis Club of Clermont will light up Center Lake with festive displays this December to mark the holiday season. Local businesses can join by sponsoring for $200—sponsor names will appear on signage to support children and families in South Lake County.  South Lake Tablet

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lake Community Arts will present its first winter concert—A Wondrous Revelation—at the Clermont Performing Arts Center on Sunday, December 21 at 6:00 p.m.—directed by Chad McClellan and featuring the 100-voice Lake Community Choir performing Christmas carols and festive holiday songs; tickets cost $10.  South Lake Tablet

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Duke Energy Florida announced that it will lower customer bills in March 2026 when it removes the storm cost recovery charge; residential customers will see a $44 decrease per 1,000 kWh and commercial bills will drop between 9.6% and 15.8%—though some customers may face a temporary increase in January and February.  Fox 35 Orlando
