At the October Chamber Breakfast, the South Lake Chamber of Commerce celebrated reaching 1,000 business members—Hills City Center is the latest addition, a milestone that showed strong community collaboration in South Lake.

President and CEO David Colby said the milestone reflects steady growth and increased programs that benefit local businesses.

Adam Townsend of Montverde Academy was named the October recipient of the $1,000 Ray Goodgame Outstanding Student Leader Award — given to a top student in the South Lake area for academic excellence, leadership and community service.

He holds a 4.43 GPA, leads both the Jewish Student Union and the Arts and Athletics Leadership Committee, and volunteers at Arnold Palmer Hospital.

Lake Technical College recognized its September Students of the Month — chosen for their outstanding academic effort and community involvement — with certificates, a balloon arrangement, and a prepared lunch; the honorees include nominees such as Myah Seraphin, Catherine Carter, Taylor Wolf, Rebecca Hicks, Adolfo Rodriguez, Billy McKinney, and Diego Silguero.

Lake County Fire Rescue received a $7.5 million SAFER grant from FEMA to add 36 new firefighters — the grant will cover most salary costs for three years.

LCFR will begin onboarding new hires in the coming months — aiming to improve response times and meet national safety standards.
