  • Central Florida actress Cindy Karr landed a recurring guest role on the true crime drama 'Murdaugh: Death in the Family,' which debuted Oct.15 on Hulu.   • On October 10, the Lake-Sumter State College Foundation launched its 2026 Annual Campaign to raise scholarship funds and support student success. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forecast models show a tropical system may form in the Caribbean next week and could curve near Florida—though some models predict it will turn away toward Mexico with a 40% chance of development. Tropical Storm Lorenzo is expected to dissipate by today as the hurricane season nears its end, which concludes on Nov. 30.  WESH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County leaders and a local developer announced that two new roundabouts will be built at the dangerous intersection on Lakeshore Drive and County Road 561 to slow traffic and improve safety. County officials said no certificates of occupancy will be issued for new homes at the Lakeshore Preserve subdivision until the roundabouts are finished — a measure aimed at reducing risks for local drivers.  WESH
  • The General Federation of Women’s Clubs will sponsor Florida’s first all-female veterans Flight of Honor to Washington, D.C. in March 2026—this effort honors female veterans by aiming to raise $150,000 for 172 participants while the South Lake Junior Women’s Club hosts a Veterans Appreciation Dinner and Quarter Auction on November 1 at Minneola City Hall from 2–5 p.m.  South Lake Tablet
