  • Earlier this month, 12 senior living communities joined the Senior Chef Showdown that raised $35,000 to help Seniors First fight food insecurity, and Chef Paul Garcia won the contest.   • Clermont’s 500 lb bell from the old brick school was moved from a hidden spot at 8th and Minneola to the Historic Village where a new open structure now displays and protects it—made in Baltimore in 1884.  South Lake Tablet

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, the Florida Department of Health in Lake County recognizes October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month to encourage regular screenings and early detection of breast cancer—its Early Detection Program offers free or low-cost mammograms for eligible women.  South Lake Tablet

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • New recreational venues are coming to South Lake as Game On, set to open soon at 524 West Avenue in downtown Clermont—near the Historic Village—will offer arcade games, golf simulators and party spaces while One Degree at 12629 US-27 will bring high-tech indoor golf in November and Minneola Mini Golf will open October 17 at 650 N.
