COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Mascotte Police Department will host its annual Cruiser for the Cause fundraising event on October 17 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Mascotte Civic Center to raise funds for the Greater Clermont Cancer Foundation—Mascotte Mayor Steven Sheffield will cut his hair and donate it to Wigs for Kids to support local children in need.  South Lake Tablet
  • The Mascotte Church will host its 1st Annual Golf Outing Fundraiser on Saturday, November 1 at Green Valley Country Club in Groveland to honor George Ludwig — golfers and sponsors may join for $65 per person which includes lunch, with registration ending October 26.  South Lake Tablet
  • The Clermont Garden Club chose Anita and Andy Smith’s garden at 15900 Sausalito Circle in Greater Hills as the Yard of the Month for October 2025. The garden blends mulch and flagstones with bright plants—like plumeria and snake plants—in a unique xeriscaped design that replaced its old grass lawn.  South Lake Tablet

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents on Hartwood Marsh Road have long awaited the widening project from Highway 27 to Regency Hills Drive as the county plans to start construction after securing grant funding in fiscal year 2027; county officials might use a short-term loan to begin the work by summer 2026 — the project will be discussed at the county commission meeting on Oct. 14.  News 6
  • The Lake County Clerk’s Office unveiled a redesigned website that improves the user interface and boosts mobile device usability for Clermont residents. The website now carries a new .GOV address (LakeCountyClerkFL.gov) to offer greater security and official transaction assurance.  South Lake Tablet

HEALTH NEWS

  • A fuzzy Puss Caterpillar seen on a Clermont fence has tiny stinging spines that can cause severe pain when touched—Florida Fish and Wildlife officials advise residents to handle yard debris carefully to avoid injuries. The caterpillars appear twice a year and experts recommend using Scotch tape and ice packs for stings—medical help should be sought if allergic reactions occur.  News 6
