  • Barbara J. Cox, known for her warm service at Clermont High School and as a dedicated volunteer, died on August 5 after a 12-year fight with lung cancer—her family will gather for a Celebration of Life on September 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Orlando.  South Lake Tablet
  • The Lake County Rowing Association is hosting an open house at The Boathouse on September 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 1050 Victory Way in Clermont — the event welcomes middle schoolers, high school students, and adults without any prior rowing experience.  South Lake Tablet

HEALTH NEWS

  • UF Health Leesburg Hospital announced today that its labor and delivery unit will close on Oct. 15—due to fewer deliveries and an aging community, some expectant mothers will have to drive up to an hour for care. Families worry that longer travel times could increase risks during emergencies.  News 6
  • National Preparedness Month reminds Clermont residents to plan for disasters like hurricanes and floods by preparing emergency kits—this includes water, non-perishable food, and important documents. Families are advised to make a clear emergency plan with evacuation routes and key contacts to keep safe during extreme weather.  WESH
