COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Clermont in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of South Lake and the Live Well Foundation broke ground on a new inclusive playground at Lake Felter Park near Lost Lake Elementary School. The grand opening will take place in five weeks after the project secured $25,000 from a contest win and additional grant funding.  South Lake Tablet

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Several homeowners said they paid thousands to Presidential Pools for projects that remain unfinished, with liens added after work stalled. At least two lawsuits have been filed against owner Philip Lelle, and the Department of Business and Professional Regulation is investigating+ some customers have hired other companies to complete their pools.  FOX 35 Orlando

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lake-Sumter State College surpassed its goal of serving over 10,000 students last school year and today begins fall with its largest incoming credit-seeking class of 7,146 students—an 18% increase from last fall—and shows steady growth in programs that meet local workforce needs.  South Lake Tablet

SPORTS NEWS

  • South Lake High School's football team opened its season on August 22 with a 27-6 win against Nature Coast—Coach Lord said the team will work on improvements before its home opener at 7 p.m. on August 29.  South Lake Tablet
  • The East Ridge High School girls cross country team competed at the Cecil Field Summer Classic last Friday at the New World Sports Complex in Jacksonville and earned sixth place in the elite division with several runners setting new personal bests—showing clear improvement in their times. The team will next race at Whispering Pines Park on August 30 to continue their season.  South Lake Tablet
