- ➤ Lions Den Mentorship Inc hosted its first Color Me Courageous Anti-Bullying Picnic on August 9th to raise youth violence prevention and anti-bullying awareness in our community. Families enjoyed music, games, and a rainbow tree painting activity while community partners including local businesses and police provided supplies—bringing everyone together to stand against bullying. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lake County Commission approved a purchase agreement Tuesday to buy right-of-way along Britt Road for $675,000—nearly double the appraised value—to repair the washed-out route and ease traffic on 44B; next steps include closing on the land and finalizing the design to reopen the road. WESH
- ➤ Lake County property appraiser Mark Jordan defended his request to raise his office's budget from just under $5 million to over $6 million to add 10 new positions for essential field reviews. County commissioners sent a letter to the Florida Department of Revenue to deny the increase and said they will appeal with the Florida Cabinet if the request passes — the debate over staffing needs continues. - ➤ Lake County announced survey results from over 1,500 residents who shared concerns about traffic, development, and protecting natural areas near city centers. Officials said they will hold additional surveys from November to April as they work with all 14 cities to complete a 25-year plan expected to be adopted in September 2026 — they stressed that local cooperation is key.
