  • The Clermont Historical Society will host its Dessert Challenge on Saturday, August 9 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Historic Village on West Avenue, where guests aged 5 and older receive passports to sample treats and vote for their favorites—winners are announced at 3:00 pm. The event offers families a chance to enjoy local desserts and explore historic buildings that showcase Clermont’s past.  South Lake Tablet
  • The Lake County Animal Shelter is taking part in NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters campaign which runs from Aug. 1 to 31 and waives adoption fees to help more pets find homes. The shelter aims to exceed last year's 447 adoptions and asks residents to donate, volunteer or foster animals — support that will help care for pets at 12280 County Road 448 in Tavares.  South Lake Tablet

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An early morning crash on State Road 44 near Tomahawk Trail in Lake County left a 17-year-old Leesburg resident dead and four others seriously injured when a Dodge Ram collided with a Dodge Charger; the Ram driver was taken to AdventHealth DeLand & three teenagers in the Charger were transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital as FHP continues to investigate the collision.  WESH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lake County Sheriff's Office renamed a highway in honor of fallen Master Deputy Sheriff Bradley Michael Link, who was killed in an ambush last year — two other deputies were injured — at a ceremony held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Minneola City Hall.  Fox 35 Orlando
