EDUCATION NEWS

  • Families in Clermont are preparing for school with practical tips on saving for supplies and resetting sleep routines. Orlando Mom Collective owner Eryn Vargo said moms should help kids read a bit each day and compare prices ahead of school starting on Aug. 11 (the new school year begins then).  WESH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Central Florida experienced heavy rain on Monday as tropical Invest 93-L moved toward the Gulf — today, scattered showers and storms are expected to bring gusty winds and more downpours, with areas west of Orlando likely receiving up to 5 inches of rain.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • A low-pressure system called Invest 93-L off the coast is set to bring heavy rain, scattered thunderstorms, and possible flash flooding to Clermont today—storms are expected to continue tonight. The system will move westward into the northeastern Gulf by late Tuesday and may develop into tropical system Dexter later this week.  WESH
  • Strong storms hit Central Florida Monday between 3:00 and 8:00 p.m. with heavy rain, damaging winds, and small hail—Flagler County issued a flood advisory after an inch of rain fell in one hour and forecasters said high rain chances will continue through Thursday.  WESH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lake County residents raised concerns about the county's growth plan during a meeting on Monday, July 14th—FOX 35's Hannah Mackenzie reported the discussion.  Fox 35 Orlando
  • Lake County Indivisibles will host two civic events in Clermont to honor Congressman John Lewis and defend voting rights; the first event will be a Good Trouble Sign Waving demonstration on July 17 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Center Lake Park and the second a Good Trouble Rally and March on July 19 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Clermont City Hall—inviting residents to participate in peaceful action.  South Lake Tablet
