CRIME NEWS

  • Statewide prosecutors charged suspended Sheriff Marcos Lopez, his estranged wife Robin Severance Lopez, Carol Cote, Sharon Fedrick, Sheldon Wetherholt, and Ying Zhang with racketeering in an illegal gambling case tied to a search warrant at Dreamers on State Road 50 in Clermont on August 22, where detectives seized roughly 100 gaming machines and $45,000—defendants have entered not guilty pleas and remain on bond.  WESH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Community members toured the revamped Lincoln Park Campus — 845 School Street — today, where Lake Technical College and the Lincoln Park Education Center teamed up to offer dual enrollment and flexible high school programs with industry certifications. The campus has received a $4 million state grant for phase one and expects another $4 million for phase two as it prepares to add courses in HVAC and electrician training.  South Lake Tablet

HEALTH NEWS

  • When residents in Clermont are sick or injured, they are advised to use primary care for routine issues, urgent care for non-life-threatening concerns, and the emergency room only for serious emergencies — a strategy that helps lower costs and reduce overcrowding. Dr. Salma Elfaki of Lake Nona Pediatrics explained that knowing which facility to use ensures faster, appropriate care and can prevent costly visits.  WESH
