ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday afternoon, a motorcyclist died on State Road 33 in Groveland when he tried to pass traffic in a no-passing zone and hit a turning Ford truck; the crash happened around (12:03 p.m.) at the intersection of State Road 33 and Pine Island Road, and the truck driver (a 63-year-old from Inverness) got minor injuries and was taken to South Lake Hospital as both directions of the road remain closed while the investigation continues.  Fox 35 Orlando

CRIME NEWS

  • Suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez remains in Lake County Jail on felony charges for racketeering and conspiracy related to a Central Florida gambling operation—he pleaded not guilty, had his $1 million bond set on Friday, and must surrender his passport and weapons and wear an ankle monitor if released.  WESH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The School of Rock Clermont celebrated its grand opening on Friday, June 7 at its new downtown location at 752 W. Montrose Street. Members of the South Lake Chamber of Commerce attended the ribbon-cutting and the school will offer performance-based music lessons and host community events.  South Lake Tablet

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Tim Murry urges Clermont residents to mark their calendars for several upcoming events as summer begins, including a Council Workshop on June 17 at 3 p.m. and community celebrations such as Juneteenth at Waterfront Park on June 21, Red, White & Boom on July 4, and budget planning workshops in July with a re-scheduled council meeting on July 29—each designed to address key local issues and foster community input.  South Lake Tablet
