On Monday afternoon, a motorcyclist died on State Road 33 in Groveland when he tried to pass traffic in a no-passing zone and hit a turning Ford truck; the crash happened around (12:03 p.m.) at the intersection of State Road 33 and Pine Island Road, and the truck driver (a 63-year-old from Inverness) got minor injuries and was taken to South Lake Hospital as both directions of the road remain closed while the investigation continues.

Suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez remains in Lake County Jail on felony charges for racketeering and conspiracy related to a Central Florida gambling operation—he pleaded not guilty, had his $1 million bond set on Friday, and must surrender his passport and weapons and wear an ankle monitor if released.

The School of Rock Clermont celebrated its grand opening on Friday, June 7 at its new downtown location at 752 W.

Montrose Street. Members of the South Lake Chamber of Commerce attended the ribbon-cutting and the school will offer performance-based music lessons and host community events.
