COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Kiwanis Club of Clermont honored fallen heroes at Oak Hill Cemetery by placing American flags on 547 graves to recognize veterans and first responders—continuing a tradition started over 40 years ago by Oakley and Nelle Seaver. Volunteers from South Lake High School and Lake Minneola High School, along with support from the City of Clermont, helped place the flags, which will remain until May 31—ensuring local remembrance of its heroes.  South Lake Tablet
  • Clermont Woman’s Club held its annual Make A Difference Day by preparing and delivering baskets of goodies and thank-you notes to local fire stations, police, sheriff’s office and public works. The club, chartered in 1927, meets on the first Tuesday each month (September through May) at its clubhouse on W. Broome Street (in Clermont).  South Lake Tablet
  • The Clermont Police Department held its monthly Coffee with a Cop event on May 21 at Dutch Bros Coffee at 3064 South US-27 in Clermont where community members spoke directly with officers including Interim Deputy Chief Mike McMaster, promoted on May 19 with 24 years of service. The department will plan more pop-up events this summer to offer residents additional chances to interact with local law enforcement.  South Lake Tablet
  • Clermont Garden Club members loaned plants to Cooper Memorial Library and Clermont City Hall in May to promote horticulture awareness and community outreach. Linda Lauletta supplied a terracotta container holding 12 labeled succulents to the library while Pam Molesky provided a dish garden with a variety of plants to City Hall.  South Lake Tablet
  • Hands of Hope America is partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank to launch the Summer BreakSpot Program, which will offer free breakfast and lunch for all children under 18 from June 2 through August 1 at its Community Center at 16605 Sunrise Lake Blvd in Clermont — breakfast is served from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.  South Lake Tablet

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Clermont Caribbean Jerk Festival, presented by the Caribbean American Association of Lake County, will be held on Saturday, June 7 from 12 to 9 pm at Clermont’s Waterfront Park. The free, family-friendly event supports the Lake Steel Orchestra and raises funds for high school scholarships—featuring Caribbean jerk chicken and pork, tropical drinks, island treats, and an Island Flag Parade celebrating Caribbean culture.  South Lake Tablet
  • The Blessed Sacrament Council of Catholic Women held its officers installation ceremony on May 20 at the Olive Garden in Clermont—where President Linda Lauletta welcomed new leaders and past president Diane Owen administered the oath to officers including treasurer Diane McCue and recording secretary Donna Antoniotti. The council continues its mission of faith and community service.  South Lake Tablet
