  • Harbor House of Central Florida will hold its fourth annual 'Cram the Van' donation drive today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Orange County Sheriff's Office on West Colonial Drive—collecting clothing, toys and non-perishable food to support youth survivors of domestic violence and summer camp programs.  WESH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 8th, 71-year-old Diane Maca and her 19-year-old granddaughter Payton Kuhn graduated from Lake-Sumter State College at the Clermont Arts and Recreation Center—attended by four generations including Diane’s 98-year-old mother. Diane now takes courses to complete her bachelor's while Payton prepares to transfer to the University of Central Florida to study veterinary medicine—marking a milestone in a family committed to lifelong learning.  South Lake Tablet
  • Lake-Sumter State College held its 71st commencement ceremonies on May 8 and May 9, awarding more than 700 degrees and certificates to a record-breaking graduating class that saw nearly a 30% increase from last spring. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lake County Government lifted its burn ban on May 16 — the ban was ended after the KBDI stayed below 500 for five straight days following heavy rains. Residents are reminded to follow safety guidelines when burning yard debris.  South Lake Tablet
