- ➤ Lake Cares food pantry moved to a new $8 million, 22,000 sq ft facility between Mount Dora, Eustis and Tavares to boost its capacity for serving local families. The group served over 71,000 people last year and uses more than 400 volunteers while seeking donations to help pay off its building loan—strengthening support for more residents in need. WESH
- ➤ The Patriot Guard Riders will display their Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall during Memorial Weekend, May 24-26, at 330 3rd St (Highlander Building and Pavilion at Water Front Park) to honor fallen service members. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Project Scholars announced that four south Lake County high school seniors – including Clermont’s Aniah Pierce and Manuel Almonte – will each receive up to $10,000 in scholarships, with $2,500 provided each year for college. The students were honored at their Senior Awards Nights, and the awards are funded by the Pig on the Pond Community Festival and local sponsors. South Lake Tablet

- ➤ Mayor Tim Murry outlined spring highlights as he attended Legislative Days in Tallahassee in late March and hosted an Earth Day cleanup on April 19 at Lake Hiawatha Preserve where over 200 residents collected more than 300 pounds of garbage. He also announced Memorial Day observances on May 24 and May 26, congratulated graduates finishing school on May 29, and reminded residents of safety tips plus upcoming summer events like free Splash Park admission, the Caribbean Jerk Festival on June 7, and Juneteenth on June 21.
