- ➤ Project Scholars announced that four South Lake seniors will each receive $10,000 in scholarships over four years from funds raised at Pig on the Pond (a local event in Clermont). The awardees were chosen for their academic achievement and community service. South Lake Tablet
- ➤ Central Florida school districts face higher bus fuel costs as gas prices rise — Marion County expects an extra $750,000 to $1 million this year while Lake and Orange County schools rely on budget cushions and fuel-saving measures to manage expenses. WESH

- ➤ Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Melbourne issued a fire weather watch for much of Central Florida today from noon to 8 p.m. Temperatures could near 96° in some areas and scattered storms may bring relief on Friday (triggered by gusty southwest winds, low humidity and drought conditions).
