EDUCATION NEWS

  • Registration is open for Kids’ College 2026 at Lake-Sumter State College, offering students from grades one to nine a chance to build a custom summer schedule. The program runs in three sessions from June 8 to July 16 at Leesburg and South Lake; families must register by May 26.  South Lake Tablet

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Over the weekend, Lake County Fire and Rescue rescued a horse and bull trapped in drying mud (the third and fourth such rescues this month) amid a harsh drought, and officials warn that potential rain could create additional risks.  News 6

HEALTH NEWS

  • After receiving a $50,000 grant, Dreamplex will expand its mobile outreach to serve people with disabilities in South Lake County by launching the Wheels of Inclusion project. The project will use a multipurpose van to boost participation by 25 percent and cut service barriers by 50 percent.  South Lake Tablet
