ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 30-year-old woman drove the wrong way on US-27 near Adkins Lane in Groveland just before 10 p.m. Wednesday night—her car hit a 45-year-old woman and then struck a second car with a 27-year-old woman, leading to her death while the others were taken to the hospital.  WESH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On April 22, Mayor Tim Murry signed a proclamation declaring April as Water Conservation Month to remind residents to use water wisely during a dry period — part of a statewide effort. At a City Council meeting, students from Cypress Ridge, Lost Lake and Aurelia Cole schools were honored for their Drop Saver contest wins, reinforcing the city's commitment to water conservation.  South Lake Tablet
  • The U.S. Drought Monitor has declared extreme and severe drought in central Florida, affecting areas in Lake, Sumter, Marion, Volusia, Seminole and Brevard counties — the worst drought in eight years. Officials warn that wildfire risk and water shortages will likely increase unless tropical moisture or early summer rains break the dry spell.  Fox 35 Orlando
