COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over the weekend, dozens of Lake County children attended a free fishing clinic at Hickory Point Recreational Complex in Tavares where they learned to bait hooks, cast lines and catch fish. The first 30 participants received free fishing poles and tackle boxes and Lake County officials said more family-friendly outdoor programs will be planned for the future.  News 6

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A residential fire in Fruitland Park on Saturday evening injured an adult and a child while three others were safely evacuated—emergency crews flew the injured by helicopter for medical attention and confirmed the home is a total loss.  News 6

CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies responded to a Clermont-area call on Saturday about a man yelling at vehicles near Via Roma Circle off Lake Louisa Road when 39-year-old Eric Escobar, who had approached a home and pounded on a door, refused to show his hands and then displayed a handgun—prompting a deputy to shoot him dead with no others injured.  News 6
  • A Clermont man identified as 39-year-old Eric Escoba was shot and killed by deputies overnight when he refused commands and drew a handgun amid a report of a suspicious person near Via Roma Circle—no other injuries were reported.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • Eric Escoba, a 39-year-old man from Clermont, was fatally shot early Saturday morning after deputies responded to reports of a suspicious person on Via Roma Circle—Escoba refused to show his hands and allegedly drew a handgun before a deputy fired.  South Lake Tablet
  • Clermont deputies shot and killed 39-year-old Eric Escoba after responding to a report of a suspicious person overnight—one deputy is on administrative leave as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement reviews the case.  FOX 35 Orlando

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Greater Clermont Cancer Foundation held its annual Bras For The Cause and Boxers Too event that raised about $100,000 to support local cancer patients and families. Beta Theta-ESA, a long-standing philanthropic group in South Lake, backed the fundraiser by providing scholarships and financial aid—helping ease the burden of treatment costs.  South Lake Tablet
