  • The Neighborhood Center of South Lake will host its 9th Annual Heartbeat of Hope Golf Tournament on Friday, April 17 at Legends Golf and Country Club in Clermont. The event will support local food security initiatives with sponsorships and player spots available.  South Lake Tablet
  • The Clermont Garden Club has chosen its clubhouse grounds at 849 West Ave. as the Yard of the Month for April 2026 after winter freezes challenged local gardens. Club member Rob Farmer wrapped the Staghorn fern to protect it and showcase the diverse blooms on the property.  South Lake Tablet

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists say a Super El Niño may form by late summer or early fall, with warmer Pacific waters sparking shifts in weather patterns worldwide — including flooding, drought, and heatwaves. Meteorologists will track changes closely to warn of possible impacts in our area.  WESH

  • Clermont Mayor Tim Murry visited the Clermont Woman’s Club at their April meeting at 655 W. Broome Street. He answered members' questions about the city's growth and shared his perspective as a native, with the club thanking him for his visit.  South Lake Tablet

HEALTH NEWS

  • Live Well Foundation of South Lake announced a grant opportunity for nonprofits to expand nutritious food access in the region (including Clermont). Applications opened the week of April 1 and close May 15 at 11:59 p.m.; interviews in July will lead to awards the week of July 27.  South Lake Tablet

SPORTS NEWS

  • Anthony Brooks, a student at Cecil E. Gray Middle School (Mascotte), entered the county meet as the top-seeded runner in the 100-meter dash, showing strong athletic and academic achievement.
