COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On March 28th, members of the Clermont Police Department, Lake County Sheriff's Office and Mid-Florida SWAT Team joined the Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Florida at the Special Olympics headquarters on Don Wickham Drive, with opening ceremonies led by CPD Captain Malcolm Draper and local officials. The runners completed a 5K trek along Oakley Seaver Drive, Hancock Road and Legends Way before finishing together—over 5,000 officers from 300 agencies will later support the state summer games starting May 16 in Orlando.  South Lake Tablet
  • At a recent meeting, the Clermont Kiwanis Club honored longtime member John Greenlee for 65 years of service. He has supported the community through both his civic work and his accounting firm—Greenlee & Hamlin.  South Lake Tablet

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lake Sumter State College unveiled its new Lake Jem Farms Beach Court Complex on March 20 — a facility for the Lakehawks' Beach Volleyball team that features six championship-quality courts. Officials said the complex was named to honor Corey Warner and Lake Jem Farms' support and will host high-level tournaments for student-athletes.  South Lake Tablet

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Unofficial results of the Congressional District 6 Special Election were posted at LakeVotes.gov and include Vote-by-Mail and Election Day precincts—provisional ballots, ballots undergoing the cure process, and overseas ballots were not counted. Voters needing to resolve signature issues must do so by 5:00 p.m. Thursday, April 3, and official results will be certified on April 4 with final results expected by April 11.  South Lake Tablet
