Good morning, Clermont.

In March, RoMac Building Supply is matching every donation to Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter—totaling a $20,000 challenge to support the Youth Construction Academy—that trains high school students in construction skills to build homes.

Lake Technical College students earned medals at the SkillsUSA regional competition as they showed strong skills in trades such as culinary arts + cosmetology while they prepare for the state finals in Jacksonville from April 28 to May 1.

Their results reflect the hard work of both the students and instructors at Lake Tech.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd swore in 13-year-old DJ Daniel on March 28th as an honorary deputy—DJ, who is battling brain cancer and hopes to set a Guinness World Record by being sworn in at 1,000 law enforcement agencies, received a badge, cowboy hat, and Sheriff Judd bobblehead amid lighthearted remarks with his family.

On March 27, six East Ridge High School student-athletes signed letters of intent to join college sports — senior Hanna Warren signed with Flagler College and will run on its cross country and track teams this fall.

Her strong performance, which brought home district and regional titles, caught Flagler’s attention from state meets.
