COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lake County’s Office of Parks and Water Resources invites children 4 and older to a free fishing clinic on Saturday, April 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at Hickory Point Recreational Complex in Tavares. The first 50 sign-ups will receive a free fishing pole and tackle box.  South Lake Tablet

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Florida continues to face its worst drought in 25 years as all areas, including Clermont, experience dry conditions with over 70% under extreme drought and water conservation measures in effect through April. Forecast models show a Strong El Niño may bring much-needed rain starting this summer.  Fox 35 Orlando

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A peaceful demonstration organized by Lake County Indivisibles will begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Clermont City Hall (685 West Montrose St.) and continue with a march on State Road 50 as participants unite for nonviolent civic change.  South Lake Tablet

SPORTS NEWS

  • The FSRA Central Florida District Championship Regatta returns to Lake Minneola Waterfront Park Saturday, March 28 at 7:30 a.m. and will showcase high school crews with free admission for spectators, while additional races run Sunday and families can check out nearby attractions during the Pig on the Pond Festival.  South Lake Tablet
