- ➤ Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter is hosting its 7th annual Women Build Kick-Off Party at The Brick & Barrel Public House in Leesburg today from 5:30—7:30 p.m. Speakers including Habitat CEO Danielle Stroud, past homeowners and a sponsor representative will talk about plans to build a new triplex in the community's first 55+ housing area as participants work to raise funds and volunteer. - ➤ Leesburg police arrested 22-year-old Neville Muirhead Jr.—the second suspect linked to the fatal shooting of 20-year-old James Jordan—on March 18 in Lady Lake after officers responded to a neighborhood incident on July 8, 2024 where Jordan was found with multiple gunshot wounds on a lawn in broad daylight. - ➤ A recent study by Zumper showed that Clermont has the most expensive one-bedroom apartments at $1,650, while Leesburg is the most affordable at $1,030—Ocala, Palm Bay, Kissimmee, and Apopka have rents in between, and renting remains a cheaper option than owning as home prices stay high. - ➤ Today, Minneola passed a resolution to rename part of US Highway 27—from Division Street to County Road 561—as the 'Master Deputy Sheriff Bradley Michael Link Memorial Highway' to honor the fallen deputy who was killed last August. His parents accepted the tribute at the meeting and the bill will now move to Tallahassee for final approval. News 6
