ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A series of deadly crashes took place over the weekend in Central Florida when a wrong-way truck on State Road 441 in Kenansville flipped a car—killing a 54-year-old woman, a 34-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy—while a separate wrong-way incident on I-4 near Longwood claimed its driver and a chain-reaction crash on State Road 429 sent four people to the hospital; officials urged drivers to be extra cautious with heavy spring break traffic.  WESH

BUSINESS NEWS

  • White Castle will break ground on April 9 at 4551 Collina Terrace in Clermont to build a 3,220-square-foot restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating—this project is expected to add 75 jobs. The opening date is not yet set.  Fox 35 Orlando

CRIME NEWS

  • A Leesburg couple was sentenced yesterday to 13 and 13.25 years in prison for aggravated manslaughter after their 11‐month‐old daughter died from starvation in 2021—police said the child was found unresponsive in an unsanitary home after being deprived of food for days.  Fox 35 Orlando

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local history advocate Ann Dupee died in 2016 at age 82 and left a $5,000 donation to Cooper Memorial Library Association; that money was used to digitize aging news archives and secure them in the Pastfinders Room—ensuring Clermont’s history remains accessible for future generations.  South Lake Tablet

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lake County Clerk Gary Cooney said Operation Green Light will be held on April 4 at the Lake County Courthouse at 550 W. Main St. in Tavares to help residents catch up on court fees and avoid driver license suspension—those who pay by 5 p.m. on April 4 may see fines reduced, and last year the event helped 421 cases with $35,662 collected and $25,637 waived.  South Lake Tablet
